Five Simple Ways to Bring More Organization to Your Daily Life Without Overhauling Everything

Life can move quickly, and it is so easy to put off adding systems to your lifestyle that will allow you to ultimately complete more tasks effortlessly and have a clearer mind.

1. Start with a brain dump.

Grab a pen and paper and write down everything that you can think of that needs to get done (your notes app is great for this).

This will help to reduce the amount of clutter in your mind and give you more mental clarity to tackle the tasks you need to check off your daily list.

2. Create your daily or weekly Life Dashboard.

Write out your daily plan for:

- Top 3 priorities

- Meeting and Appointments

- Errands

- Daily tasks (prep dinner, start laundry etc.)

This will prevent you from scrambling to accomplish your daily action items & make it feel less daunting.

3. Utilize timers

If you find it difficult to stay on task throughout the day, set timers for various activities. For example, if you know you can clean up your emails in thirty minutes, set a timer for that amount of time and challenge yourself to get it done.

The reality is that we procrastinate on tasks we simply do not enjoy doing. So, it is easy to get distracted while we are trying to complete them. Setting an alarm can help keep you on task and encourage you to wrap up the project so you can check it off the list.

4. Catch all basket

If you feel like your life is overrun with papers, forms, and receipts create a catch all basket. This way you can drop these items in daily to eliminate clutter and to also keep important documents in one spot.

At least once a week or daily if time allows, go through the basket and file the paperwork where it belongs and address the tasks that need to be completed.

5. Minimize and Organize

It is easy to get overrun by ‘stuff’ in our life. Often when we decide it is time to declutter and organize, it feels extremely overwhelming.

Pick an area to declutter each week. This will keep you on task and allow you to finish the project in a timely manner. To create organization and systems in your space, you may need to minimize the number of items you have. We spend a lot of time managing our stuff and that can create unnecessary daily stress. Be ruthless with yourself when it comes to decluttering. Have you really used this in the last 6 months? Do you see yourself needing it in the next 3-6 months? If the answer is no, it is probably time to get rid of it.

You do not have to be super organized to feel in control. Start small, stay consistent and give yourself time to make these daily and weekly changes. We can accomplish a lot with an hour a day!
