How to Stay Motivated During Slow Seasons In Business

Have you ever hit a slow season in your business and wondered what you could be

doing differently? The reality is slow seasons happen in nearly every business, while it

does not mean you are doing anything wrong, there are some ways you can make the

most of any slow season.

Slow seasons may bring uncertainty, negative self-talk, loss of creativity and anxiety

around money and the future. This feeling of stress does not help the success of your

business or your confidence as a business owner.

Shifting our mindset during a slow season will help us to be more productive and can

lead to new energy and better focus. It is important to normalize business cycles and to

understand the ups and downs as well as expectations for each year. Shifting focus to a

long-term vision vs. short-term dips brings focus, clarity and new energy to our process.

Bringing focused attention to activities during slow seasons will bring us closer to our

goal of success.

Here are some ways to can make a slow season a productive time in any business:

1. Go back to the “Why”

What drove you to start your business and what keeps you motivated every day

to continue? Ultimately this is the most important factor in staying motivated as it

is our ultimate driver to success.

2. Set small, achievable weekly goals

There are things that have been on our to-do list for weeks or months that we

simply have not had the time to tackle. When we have time to bring focused

energy to our tasks we can break them down into smaller goals to efficiently

tackle each week. The psychology of checking items off of our to do list can really

boost our confidence and make us feel accomplished.

3. Work on updating business systems

Now is a great time to implement new systems or processes you have been

wanting to implement. Organize your filing system or creating a marketing plan

are ideas for building a strong foundation so that we are better prepared and

productive when business picks up again. Having systems in place will help us to

better manage our daily work as the busier months kick in.

4. Invest in skill building

This is also a great time to sign up for courses to expand our business or

marketing knowledge. Having some down time to dedicate ourselves to growing

and improving our business skill set is a recipe for success!

5. Increase visibility

During slower seasons, it is important to continue or ramp up marketing efforts.

Content creation is a great way to get our name out there. Ramping up our

networking efforts with our target audience and following up with any warm leads

is a smart strategy.

Motivation comes from movement, not waiting. It is important to find the

motivation to implement some or all these business movements during slower

seasons. Small steps move business forward and creates a more profitable path.
