The Quiet Power of Showing Up Everyday

Have you ever set a goal and months later you feel no progress has been made?

It is easy to let our daily steps towards reaching our goals fall to the wayside. We usually start out motivated and strong and then as life happens, we fall a little short of adopting that daily habit into our lifestyle.

What if the most life-changing thing you can do every day is to keep showing up?

Here are ways you can show up for your goals every day without feeling like you must have a perfect track record.

The Big Leap

We often wait for motivation or the right time to begin working towards a goal. Life gets in the way often and it can feel like there is never a right time to start.

The reality is that most of life’s changes are built on compounded small actions that end up leading to a big shift over time.

The progress you are making can feel insignificant in the moment. However, when you take the time to look at the big picture, the overall progression from when you started the small habits to what you have accomplished so far, you may be surprised how much further toward your goal you are than you thought. The quiet phase of growth is if often invisible.

Staying on track, even on off days

Keep a daily calendar or planner so you can see all your tasks for the day. Write in the “15 minutes of journaling”, “30 minutes of running”, “Monday to Wednesday Meal prep”, whatever the small task is you are doing daily to work towards your overall goal.

By having this written in your daily plan, it feels non-negotiable. You can also habit stack by adding things like “Start laundry” prior to starting your journal sessions or “Finish audiobook” which you can complete on your run. This will help motivate you to accomplish this task as well. Create success by stacking habits to reach the goal.

Naturally, there will be days when life happens, or you just simply cannot get to a task. On days like these, even a modified version of your daily habit is a great alternative. If you cannot get in your full length run today, perhaps a walk would suffice or a shorter run that fits in with your schedule.

If you are out and about today and not at home to eat the meal you have prepared to keep you on your fitness goal, opt for a choice closest to what you had planned.

Perfection does not always equal progress. In fact, it is nearly impossible to have a perfect track record when you are working towards a goal. Be consistent and most of all, be flexible. The small habits will lead you to your overall goal!
