The Value of Goals

Knowing why we do what we do and planning for what we want to do can be effortless if
we put some thought into it. Coasting through life is a strategy but planning the life we
want by setting goals and benchmarking our progress can create truly amazing results.
Taking the time to sit down and think about what it is that we want out of life can help us
to get clear on where we are and where we want to go to live our life with purpose.
Putting effort into figuring out the “why” is very important. A weak “why” will not create
the life of our dreams because we will quickly lose focus. But a strong thought-out
purpose with goals and concrete plans will get us there.
A solid “why” will keep pushing us and re-motivating us when we get off track or simply
just feel too tired to work on our dreams. When we know what we want and how we want to get there based on our lifestyle and choices, our goal will fit into our life and not feel like one more thing on our to do list!
We do not go from a goal to a result overnight! It can be faster than one year, or it can
be longer than that. It depends on how strong the goal is for us and how realistic we are
with our plan to get there.
Begin by writing out the goal you want to achieve. Spend time breaking it down into
achievable micro tasks on a yearly basis, monthly basis, weekly and daily basis. Once
you have these in place, plan self-check in dates and put them on your calendar. Pay
attention to the micro goals that were set and if they are working for you as you move
forward to the life you want.
For visual inspiration, take some time and create a vision board with quotes and printed
online pictures, drawings or photos to get inspired.
It is equally important to know that it is okay to adjust our goals. This is normal.
Sometimes our target or circumstances change in the process. Staying focused on how
we want to live versus just getting by day to day will help us on the journey.
